How to proof yeast for Bread Machines

Yeast is a living organism.  When reactivated, produces carbon dioxide gas which causes well kneaded dough to rise.  We recommend that you use active dry yeast when making bread or dough in the Welbilt Bread Machine.  This bread machine will also accept rapid rise yeast.

Start with a clear glass 1 cup measure. 
Pour in 1/2 cup of warm water (between 110F to 115F.  Add 1 teaspoon sugar and stir until dissolved.  Add 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast and stir.  Let stand for 10 minutes and allow to ferment.  After 10 minutes, a creat of foam should have developed with the crest at the rim of the measure.  If foam crests well below the rim, discard the yeast and buy fresh for your bread machine.
